The mass distribution of narcotics, or “movin’ weight,” has been a central theme in the context of rap music and inner city street culture. Over the last 25 years, the genre has been inundated with musicians that have built their catalogs on glamorizing drugs. The dope boy is and has been a popular character within hip-hop music. The more drugs a dope boy can acquire and distribute, the more street credibility he gets. The more street credibility he has, the more potent and relevant his rap lyrics become. Those ideas became the foundation for the movie soundtrack, “Movin’ Weight.”
